A tenant retail door may require a different security strategy, while the door to a residential riser cupboard must meet fire performance without becoming an unnecessary visual distraction.
The schedule must therefore respond to the use of each opening, not just its location on a drawing. There is also a commercial reason to coordinate early. Repetition is valuable where it is appropriate. But standardisation should never flatten the character of the scheme. Rather than writing a separate specification from scratch for every door, create carefully considered hardware sets for recurring conditions. The key is to identify genuine repetition without overlooking exceptions. A riser door and a cleaners' cupboard might look similar on plan, yet one could sit within a protected route and require a closer and latch, while the other may not.
Consider the whole user journey
A resident may enter through a controlled communal door, pass through a lobby, use a lift core, open a flat entrance and operate fitted cabinetry within minutes. The quality of the experience relies on more than visual continuity. Lever action, grip, closing speed, noise, privacy and the ease of opening all shape how the building feels.

If a change is necessary, it should be reviewed against the entire opening, not approved on appearance alone.

Use samples to protect the design intent
