Durability is another area where upfront judgement pays for itself. High-traffic doors may warrant grade-appropriate hinges, resilient finishes and hardware designed for frequent use. In a private residence, a more delicate finish or specialist piece may be entirely appropriate, provided the owner understands its care requirements and expected patina. Premium hardware is not always maintenance-free, and a natural living finish is chosen for character, not uniformity.

The strongest projects establish hardware intent early, then refine it as the technical information becomes available.
